A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL
By Dawn Gribben

We all know stitchers will go anywhere, any time to be with other stitchers. Being our eight year of Her Majesty’s Retreat, perseverance and dedication is an award 14 GRV members received February 1.

Weather reports of snow, sleet, ice doesn’t keep the mail from being delivered and certainly could not keep stitchers away from their weekend of stitching. Cell phones were busy coordinating traffic reports, whether we were still meeting for lunch and "where are you?”. The Stitching god was on the shoulders of the drivers as many made their way from the west part of the state safely arriving in East Lansing for their get away weekend.

Her Majesty’s GRV retreat is possible because of the thoughtfulness of Alyce and Diane Hoban who each year ask “What’s going on with the retreat?” We shake our heads and Alyce and Diane take that as a yes and again start the process. They book the rooms, choose the food, figure the cost and then send us all notices.

Friday afternoon each one quickly checks in at the hotel, heads to our stitching room to set up her “nest”. Then we can visit, catch up on what’s happening and did you finish last year’s project? We stitched each day with some taking time off to pamper themselves with a massage, facial or whatever. Some went to the gym. The rest of us stayed and guarded their canvasses. For those of you who have never been, we also have access to a spa when your stitching fingers and eyes need a respite.

Each day was delightful. We stitched, the caterers took away breakfast and brought us lunch – we stitched some more and it was time for dinner. Having been outside our stitching room for a while, most of us returned and stitched some more. Some even changed into their “jimmies” to be more comfortable.

Sunday morning found us back again, asking those who came before us “how  late did you stitch?” Secretly, I think some never went to bed. Alas, after a wonderful brunch at the University Club, we bid each other farewell, fingers tired, but resolved to do this again next year.

The GRV retreat has become an annual winter event because of the dedication and initiative of Alyce and Diane. This weekend is a time when the chapter comes together with nothing to interfere with their stitching and their stitching friends Think about coming next year

Thanks again, Alyce and Diane and all 14 who made this a great weekend.
